The Volkswagen Group on AWS

An innovator in the automotive industry for more than 80 years, the Volkswagen Group is Europe’s largest car maker, producing 11 million cars annually. To transform its automotive manufacturing and logistics processes, the Group built the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which uses AWS Internet of Things (IoT) services to connect data from all machines, plants, and systems across more than 120 factory sites. The Volkswagen Industrial Cloud aims to yield a 30 percent increase in productivity, 30 percent decrease in factory costs, and save €1 billion in supply chain costs. The Group is also using AWS to expand beyond manufacturing into ridesharing services, connected vehicles, and immersive, virtual car-shopping experiences to shape the future of mobility.

How Volkswagen Streamlined Access to Data Across Multiple Datalakes Using Amazon DataZone

[2024]Over the years, organizations have invested in creating purpose-built, cloud-based data lakes that are siloed from one another. A major challenge is enabling cross-organization discovery and access to data across these multiple data lakes, each built on different technology stacks. Volkswagen uses AWS to make the process simple while keeping the data consistent, secure, and well-governed.

Scania Scales Its Connected-Vehicle Solution Using AWS

[2022] Transportation company Scania had top-of-the-line on-premises servers, but it could not scale enough to keep up with the growing amount of messaging data from its vehicles. Its fleet grew and continues to grow quickly; by the last quarter of 2022, the fleet of trucks that could exchange data with Scania numbered more than 500,000. For 3 years, Scania underwent a complete redesign of its data network, migrating its servers from on premises to AWS. Using products like AWS Lambda, Scania could scale as much as it needed with lower latency and better security.
